Pets Guide

Opening the "Monster Corral" Quest:
First, complete "Niccolo's Business Unusual" Quest. Next, complete the "Tiny Sorcerers" Quest.
Then, return to the area that you fought with Bud and Lisa.
The onion-kid will be there and so will a monster egg. Follow the
instruction given by the onion-kid, then catch the egg. Just put
a fruit in its path. When it gets near the food, it will eat and
might sleep after it has finished. Go to it and press "X" to catch it.
Please keep in mind that the egg may not sleep even if it eats some food.
After you catch it, the bird will come and grab it and deliver it back to
your monster corral beside your house. After listening to the onion-kid,
you will end the quest. From this point onwards, you are able to catch
and keep any eggs you find.

Pet Tips:

Leveling up your pet:
To level up your pet, you have to take them to battle with you, hoping that they
will step on crystals for exp. You can leave them at the stables to graze,
which will also gain them exp and levels.
Leaving them to graze is more efficient. They will, for certain, gain exp.
Taking them to the battlefield to gain exp only 'works' if they actually get
exp crystals or not. When pets gain new levels, they gain new technique and
abilities too. It is best that you leave them alone to graze and bring them
out occasionally to let them 'see' the world. Pets have low HP and only leveling
them up can raise their HP. You may think that pets are lousy after you caught one.
Actually you are partially correct. The pets that you caught early in
the game is rather weak but the eggs that you will catch when you are
further into the game has higher HP and stats. They are cheap and easy
to manage compared to Golems. There is another way to let those cute
little things gain new level. The method is that you will equip the
forbidden ring from Daena in the early part of the game and bring your
pet out to battle. Your pet would gain the crystal level as your main
character gets them. If you have just started playing Legend of Mana,
here is a tip. DONT lose the forbidden ring. Do not ever use it to
make logic blocks or sell it. There is no gameshark code to get it back.

Giving them the right fruit:
Feeding them can raise their stats and change their personalities.
Pets will only eat after they gain a level. For what each fruit will raise,
refer to the "Fruits" section above here. You may also give them meat to
eat which really doesnt do a damn thing for them.

Egg encounter rate:
The encounter rate depends on how high your luck is. The higher the luck, the
more easily you will find eggs in areas that they can appear. There are many
different kinds of eggs that you may encounter. Some hatch into really lousy
pets while some hatch into strong pets. Lousy pets should be sold and
strong pets should be kept. There is unlimited eggs in every
area. If you return to an area that you had just caught an egg later on in the
game, you can get another egg in that same location. The western end of domina is a special
case. You will not encounter any more eggs after you have caught the
first one. If you are a pet fiend and are searching and not wanting to waste time,
catch and bring a Polter Box pet with you when catching other eggs. It raises your luck severely.

Strength
Weakness
Strength and Weakness is based on what elementals a Land contains. Example: If you go to
Norn Peeks with your "Mad Mallard" pet, and Norn Peeks has 3-Salamander and 1-Dryad for it
elementals, your pet would be at its strongest because of the Salamander level. If you took
your pet "Narcissos" however, because of the Salamander level, it would be at its worst
since it is weak to Salamander.
